Gardens of Eden ~ CD review

Various Artists ~ Putamayo 2001
(review excerpt) Gardens of Eden is a compilation of music that originates in countries or regions that have often been considered earthly paradises, from the white sandy beaches and blue lagoons of the Pacific to the lush rainforests of Brazil and Costa Rica. Music can transport the listener to a place free of the stresses and crisis of modern life. Thus, by evoking an idyllic world through music, hopefully we are brought closer to realizing this ideal in our day -to-day lives.
When I received Gardens of Eden in the mail, I placed it directly into my player at work, pressed repeat all, and let it go for five straight days. As a professional tattoo artist, music has always been an important calming element for both me and my clients. Although my studio is designed to be an "oasis of tranquility," it can become a very intense environment at times: the perfect place to test my hypothesis. What I discovered was that, even over the buzz of a tattoo machine, the music transported us. As the music worked to alter the landscape of our minds, I was able to reflect this transformation by altering the landscape of my clients bodies.
